Functional Assessor (PIP) — Coventry | Brand New Site
£39,500 | Hybrid working | Full time or part time | Monday–Friday, no nights, no weekends, no on-call
Still love being a clinician — just not everything that comes with it?
If you're a nurse tired of unsafe staffing levels, a paramedic worn down by 12-hour shifts and missed meal breaks, a physiotherapist buried under waiting lists, or an OT whose caseload never stops growing — this is a different way to use your clinical expertise.
Our client is opening a brand new assessment site in Coventry, and we're recruiting the founding team of Functional Assessors. You'll carry out Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments, using your clinical knowledge and communication skills to understand how a person's health condition or disability affects their daily life, and producing high-quality written reports for the DWP.
Who can apply?
You'll be a registered clinician with at least 12 months' post-registration experience from one of the following backgrounds:
- Nurses (RGN, RMN, RNLD) — NMC registered
- Paramedics — HCPC registered
- Physiotherapists — HCPC registered
- Occupational Therapists — HCPC registered
Broad clinical experience is more important than a specialist background — we welcome applicants from acute, community, mental health and primary care settings.
Why clinicians make the move:
- Your evenings and weekends back — Monday to Friday, sociable hours, and genuine flexibility with full-time and part-time options
- Hybrid working — a blend of clinic-based assessments at the new Coventry site and working from home
- Full salary from day one — including a comprehensive, fully paid training programme (no unpaid study time)
- Keep your registration — your NMC or HCPC registration is maintained and revalidation supported
- One person at a time — structured appointments where you can give each individual your full attention, without the pressure of an understaffed unit or an ambulance queue
- A new team, not an established hierarchy — as part of the founding cohort at a new site, you'll shape the culture from day one
The role:
- Conduct PIP assessments face-to-face, by telephone and by video
- Take a detailed clinical history and carry out functional examinations where appropriate
- Produce clear, evidence-based reports to support DWP decision-making
- Work autonomously with the backing of clinical support, coaching and a structured quality framework
No previous assessor experience is needed — full training is provided, and our candidates benefit from Gaia Recruitment's specialist interview and assessment preparation, which is why our clinicians succeed at nearly double the industry average rate.
